Bacwire is a project funded by the European Commission under the 7 ^th framework program. It involves a consortium of five research institutions and one company with the aim of developing a practical bio-fuel cell for the simultaneous cogeneration of energy and bioremediation, using electro-active bacteria.

 

Main emphasis will be addressed to the creation of new nano-engineered linkers to improve the connectivity of the bacteria to the electrodes of the fuel cell.
